"You don't know what your abilities are until you make a full commitment to developing them"
Carol S. Dweck
As a teacher with a growth mindset, I understand the importance of harnessing a life-long love of learning. I not only encourage this in my students, but in my own life too. I believe that the role of ‘the modern educator’ is to continue to develop and redefine our understanding of what it means to be a teacher, so that we are able to adapt to the shifting needs of our students.

I am from South Africa but have been living abroad for 7 years - predominantly in Vietnam and currently in Spain. It was in Vietnam where I fell in love with teaching primary, thematic curriculums, outdoor learning and developing a sustainable approach to education. My 'Big Idea' as an educator is to make every student feel confident and capable of making a positive impact on the world. I focus on teaching sustainable practices by integrating ideas and themes into the science and literacy curriculums through reading and allowing my students to come up with practical solutions to real-world problems. I am passionate about teaching SEL and mindfulness practices to my students as independent sessions, or simply including mindfulness practices into regular classes. I am a believer that collaboration is best-practice in schools and learning from and sharing with one another is a useful tool of which schools should make more use.

I do not wish to force my own ideologies and beliefs onto my students, but rather allow them to form their own opinions and understanding of the world. I am continuously seeking out new methods and ways to become a better educator and facilitator of learning. I think my open-mindedness and positivity make me a good traveller and allow me to integrate into a variety of schooling environments and cultures.
